The Downtown Pittsburgh Macy’s store is not only very old, but it’s been changed many times throughout the years. Here’s the history on this particular location:
This area on the second floor was at one time a retail area, later a dental office,
then a mass storage area… until last month, when it was converted to a portrait studio. When the contractors ripped up the old carpet, a marble floor was discovered underneath. In this photo, it may just look like a concrete floor, but if you look closely….
You can barely see the grey and pink marble stones under the old carpet glue! But stone restoration is still possible!
The initial phase of the stone restoration for this floor is to cut deep past the glue, markings, and other damage to get to the “raw” stone. It’s slow moving, but look at the floor’s progress when we got halfway through the floor on this initial phase:
Tomorrow we get to work again.
